Health and Well-being in the Workplace: A Major Challenge

According to the Relief research chair in mental health, self-management and work, around 55% of employees experience a mental health problem (Université Laval, 2022).

In Canada, 70% of young people aged 18 to 30 consider companies' commitment to the environment to be crucial in their choice of employment (Statistics Canada, 2023).

When an organization doesn't manage health and wellbeing well, it is four times more likely to lose talent over the next twelve months (Right Management 2009; Wellness and Productivity Management, 2011).

Burned-out employees are 2.6 times more likely to actively seek another job, 63% more likely to take sick leave and 23% more likely to visit the emergency room (American Psychological Association, 2019).

The World Health Organisation has acknowledged that few public health interventions can offer quite such a range of benefits as those in greenspace (WHO, Regional Office for Europe, 2016).

How nature helps your company :

The number of Zoom users rose from 10 million to 300 million between December 2019 and April 2020 (Evans, 2020). Wallpapers with nature images tire Zoom users less than any other screen (B. J. Li & Zhang, 2024).

More creativity and innovation are seen in environments that include natural elements (Chulvi et al., 2020).

Employees with a connection to nature feel more involved and are more likely to implement their employer's environmental plans (Financial Times, 2022).

Time spent in nature increases perseverance, resilience, critical thinking, problem-solving, leadership and teamwork (Mann et al., 2022).

Walking in nature significantly improves cognitive performance, harnessing the potential of high oxygen flow to the brain to stimulate creative thinking skills (Ci̇n & Hintistan, 2023).

Contact with nature increases creativity and idea generation by 28% (Yu & Hsieh, 2020).

Bringing nature to your team means offering them a lifelong tool for their well-being and mental health.

RENATURE® Conferences

Understanding the Impact

  • How contact with nature improves mental health at work

More and more companies are turning to contact with nature to improve the mental and cognitive health of their managers and employees. Research shows that nature reduces stress, restores attention and concentration, enhances working memory and significantly boosts productivity. This conference presents the state of contemporary research and simple applications that can be implemented in the workplace.

  • The promises of biophilic design: bringing nature into the office

Two-thirds of employees think carefully about the work environment when they accept a job. 80% say the work environment encourages them to stay in a job (Oseland, Nigel, 2019). What's more, 10% of employee absences can be attributed to architecture with no connection to nature.

Biophilic design is biophilia (the innate attraction to natural elements) applied to the design and development of the human built environment. It is based on a number of principles that are more complex than vegetation alone, as it addresses the senses of sight, touch, hearing, smell and cognitive well-being. The positive impact of biophilic design, already adopted by many companies, has now been demonstrated. It reduces absenteeism and stress, and increases attention and psychological well-being.

RENATURE® Activity

Involve Your Employees

Based on scientific research, this course takes place entirely in the forest. Using examples and exercises, it passes on methods for using contact with nature to the benefit of our mental and physical health (duration 1h to 3h).

Our RENATURE activity has been tested and validated by McGill University. The results have been published in the International Journal of Environmental Research and Public Health (2022).

It can be held on a one-off basis (shoulder lake, seminar, team building) or on a recurring basis, and can be adapted to any type of organization.
